A school doesn’t climb a letter grade by accident. We sit down with Richwood Middle’s Errika McBride to unpack how intentional coaching, aligned resources, and purposeful technology helped move the needle on state assessments—and why the work continues after the first big win. Errika’s philosophy is crisp: grow teachers to grow students. She describes what daily support looks like in classrooms, how to keep goals visible without creating burnout, and the simple systems that turn strategies into habits students can feel.

Welcome to Spotlight for Success by American Book Company.

00:00:09.199 --> 00:00:10.800
I'm Devin Pintozi, your host.

00:00:10.880 --> 00:00:18.079
We're here at uh Lacew in in wonderful New Orleans, here for the LACU 2025 celebration.

00:00:18.239 --> 00:00:22.320
Uh we are here with our special guest, Erica McBride.

00:00:22.800 --> 00:00:30.000
Erica McBride uh joins us from Richwood Middle at Wachita Parish, Louisiana, and we're so excited to have you here today.

00:00:30.320 --> 00:00:30.800
Thank you.

00:00:31.280 --> 00:00:32.000
It's a pleasure.

00:00:32.320 --> 00:00:36.560
Erica, tell us a bit about your work there at uh at Richwood Middle.

00:00:36.719 --> 00:00:39.840
Well, at uh Richwood Middle School, I am an administrative assistant.

00:00:39.920 --> 00:00:45.439
I have an opportunity to work with my teachers to grow teachers that eventually grow students.

00:00:45.600 --> 00:00:48.079
So uh my job is kind of all inclusive.

00:00:48.159 --> 00:00:50.479
I get to work with teachers and students all day.

00:00:50.719 --> 00:00:51.600
Oh, wonderful.

00:00:51.759 --> 00:00:52.000
Yeah.

00:00:52.159 --> 00:00:54.719
And uh how has it been going this year in your school?

00:00:54.960 --> 00:00:57.039
Actually, it's uh been pretty progressive.

00:00:57.119 --> 00:00:58.960
Uh we've gotten some strategies in place.

00:00:59.119 --> 00:01:07.280
Our goal is to grow students to increase test scores, and uh, so we got plenty of initiatives in place right now that uh that they're working.

00:01:07.519 --> 00:01:07.840
Wow.

00:01:08.400 --> 00:01:12.879
And uh so did you use uh American uh book company last year uh with your students?

00:01:13.040 --> 00:01:14.079
I do believe we did.

00:01:14.480 --> 00:01:15.519
Okay, great.

00:01:15.680 --> 00:01:17.280
And y'all saw score improvements?

00:01:17.439 --> 00:01:18.239
Yes, sir, we did.

00:01:18.319 --> 00:01:20.480
We saw a significant increase in scoring.

00:01:20.560 --> 00:01:24.319
We went from a D school to a C school, so we're very excited about that.

00:01:24.560 --> 00:01:28.959
But uh we did realize that it's no time to get laxed in in our duties.

00:01:29.200 --> 00:01:31.439
Uh it's time to keep grinding.

00:01:31.760 --> 00:01:32.560
That's awesome.

00:01:32.959 --> 00:01:33.519
That's great.

00:01:33.599 --> 00:01:34.719
Well, I'm glad to hear that.

00:01:34.799 --> 00:01:37.760
And uh so can you tell me a bit about uh your journey?

00:01:37.840 --> 00:01:40.159
What what uh brought you here today to Lake U?

00:01:40.319 --> 00:01:42.239
Uh are there certain takeaways you wanted?

00:01:42.719 --> 00:01:45.120
Thank you for watching Spotlight for Success.

00:01:45.280 --> 00:01:50.239
I am Devin Pentosi, the Chief Operating Officer of American Book Company.

00:01:50.560 --> 00:01:54.560
We are located here in our headquarters in Woodstock, Georgia.

00:01:55.120 --> 00:01:58.159
All of our materials are printed in the USA.

00:01:58.879 --> 00:02:04.239
We have course books, ebooks, and online testing in grades.

00:02:10.879 --> 00:02:18.800
These materials are all designed to help students with higher scores on their state specific assessment.

00:02:19.759 --> 00:02:22.000
We guarantee score improvement.

00:02:22.639 --> 00:02:31.039
You can get free samples of our materials either in print or in electronic formats at abc12.com.

00:02:31.280 --> 00:02:33.199
We look forward to hearing from you.

00:02:34.479 --> 00:02:38.240
All the time, uh Lakue is probably one of the most exciting parts of my school year.

00:02:38.319 --> 00:02:41.680
Each year, I get to go learn more about the technology that's out there.

00:02:41.919 --> 00:02:42.080
Okay.

00:02:42.240 --> 00:02:49.199
Uh, one of my biggest initiatives right now is to teach our students how to use technology uh in a more positive manner.

00:02:49.360 --> 00:02:54.479
Uh there's always that um that negative vibe out there with technology.

00:02:54.719 --> 00:03:04.479
So, with all of the new technology that's that's inundating our system, we want to make sure that our students get the best part of it, know how to use it, know how to expand and succeed by using it.

00:03:04.719 --> 00:03:19.439
So LACU coming here, getting all that extra knowledge, getting all the educators together, and you know, just kind of vibing off each other, learning from each other, and being able to take that back to my school, back to my teachers, and back to my students is one of the biggest highlights of my leading.

00:03:19.599 --> 00:03:20.800
Oh, that's wonderful.

00:03:21.039 --> 00:03:21.759
Um, that's great.

00:03:21.840 --> 00:03:25.120
Is there uh anything you'd like to share with the LACU community?

00:03:25.439 --> 00:03:34.719
Man, just keep learning, keep giving out these, giving out the information, uh, keep growing, keep making it possible for our students to succeed in the best possible place.

00:03:35.199 --> 00:03:36.400
All right, that's awesome.

00:03:36.560 --> 00:03:38.879
Erica McBride, thank you for joining us today.

00:03:39.759 --> 00:03:42.960
Happy to have you here, and uh, hope it's a very successful conference for you.

00:03:43.199 --> 00:03:43.520
Thank you.

00:03:43.680 --> 00:03:44.800
It's nice being in.

00:03:44.960 --> 00:03:45.520
All right.

00:03:46.000 --> 00:03:46.639
All right.
