00:00:09.054 --> 00:00:10.698
I'm Devin Pintozzi, your host.

00:00:10.698 --> 00:00:16.772
We are here at the Federal Programs Conference in sunny Montgomery, Alabama.

00:00:16.772 --> 00:00:20.830
We are here with our special guest, Andre Hodges.

00:00:20.830 --> 00:00:29.525
Andre Hodges is an educational content specialist with the Montgomery Public School System, so nice to see you today.

00:00:29.606 --> 00:00:30.628
Andre, nice to meet you.

00:00:30.628 --> 00:00:32.552
Glad to be here, wonderful.

00:00:33.261 --> 00:00:37.981
Andre, can you tell us a little bit about what you're doing here at the Federal Programs Conference?

00:00:38.021 --> 00:00:38.280
today.

00:00:38.280 --> 00:01:00.549
Yes, well, I'm here at our annual Federal Programs conference that we have every year for federal programs for the state of Alabama, just to stay sharp and gain more knowledge and new knowledge of what we do every day for our jobs, to help provide opportunities for students as far as federal funds in the schools.

00:01:00.549 --> 00:01:01.692
Montgomery Public Schools.

00:01:02.093 --> 00:01:08.792
That's great, and so can you tell us a little bit about your journey, your educational journey, to get to this point?

00:01:09.272 --> 00:01:09.754
Oh, wow.

00:01:09.754 --> 00:01:12.766
So this has been a 28 year journey.

00:01:12.766 --> 00:01:17.319
I started teaching as a second profession.

00:01:17.319 --> 00:01:35.262
I started out in the business world in retail management and went from there and moved to New Orleans and became a teacher in New Orleans, louisiana, where I was an Algebra 1 teacher and an exploratory elective teacher for eighth grade kids.

00:01:35.262 --> 00:01:38.448
And then I went from there to career tech.

00:01:38.448 --> 00:01:45.813
Well, it was a career high school Shout out to Rob Wynn, career Mat in high School in New Orleans, no longer open since Katrina.

00:01:45.813 --> 00:01:58.203
But I was able to teach business education courses and went from there and I moved back to Alabama, my home state, and taught at my home high school.

00:01:58.843 --> 00:01:59.763
I was a basketball coach.

00:01:59.763 --> 00:02:00.584
I was a volleyball coach.

00:02:00.584 --> 00:02:01.885
I was a basketball coach.

00:02:01.885 --> 00:02:05.510
I was a volleyball coach oh, look at that.

00:02:05.510 --> 00:02:09.413
Fbla, future Business Leaders of America, shout out advisor.

00:02:09.413 --> 00:02:13.056
And I also taught geometry and algebra as well.

00:02:13.056 --> 00:02:14.121
Wow.

00:02:14.121 --> 00:02:25.731
So I did quite a bit of things and from there I moved back here to Montgomery where I went to undergraduate school and I taught here at Jeff Davis High School, where I was a business education teacher.

00:02:25.731 --> 00:02:56.968
Okay, I was also a technology coordinator and advanced into broadcast media journalism, where I taught the JDTV class at Jeff Davis High School and then from there I got my administrative break and became an assistant principal here at Bellingrath Middle School and after that became a principal, a career tech director, a curriculum director and now I'm an education specialist for federal programs.

00:02:57.250 --> 00:02:59.967
Wow, that rounds out my 28-year journey.

00:02:59.967 --> 00:03:02.105
Wow, thank you for your service.

00:03:02.259 --> 00:03:03.635
That's wonderful, Andre.

00:03:03.635 --> 00:03:03.899
Thank you.

00:03:04.461 --> 00:03:06.588
Thank you for watching Spotlight for Success.

00:03:06.588 --> 00:03:11.620
I am Devin Pintosi, chief Operating Officer of American Book Company.

00:03:40.477 --> 00:03:44.402

00:03:52.693 --> 00:03:54.358
We look forward to hearing from you.

00:03:54.358 --> 00:03:59.091
Have you used American Book Company products before?

00:03:59.240 --> 00:04:00.445
Yes, we have.

00:04:00.445 --> 00:04:09.472
When I was assistant principal at Bellingrath Middle School, we used your products there and it really helped and worked with our students.

00:04:09.472 --> 00:04:21.733
We were working on trying to help students increase their academic achievement and it was able to kind of bridge that gap for us to help pull up those academic scores Wonderful.

00:04:22.201 --> 00:04:23.144
And did that work.

00:04:23.144 --> 00:04:24.389
It worked, it worked.

00:04:24.540 --> 00:04:29.812
And we were able to use it as pullout during our intervention period and advisory periods.

00:04:29.812 --> 00:04:38.519
It also the students were excited about it because they could monitor and see their progress, which was one of the key aspects of the program.

00:04:38.519 --> 00:04:49.372
And it was able, it was easy for the teachers to implement and it wasn't hard and you know, even with the computer platform part of it that made it easy as well.

00:04:49.459 --> 00:04:58.675
It made it easy for the kids because it wasn't so as they say, it wasn't boring or lame, you know, in the mind of a middle schooler.

00:04:59.060 --> 00:05:00.043
Oh yes, that's great.

00:05:00.064 --> 00:05:00.908
That's great to hear.

00:05:01.019 --> 00:05:02.064
I'm glad that worked well for you.

00:05:02.064 --> 00:05:03.165
It did, it did.

00:05:03.165 --> 00:05:07.730
Do you have anything else you'd like to share with the federal programs?

00:05:07.790 --> 00:05:08.232
community.

00:05:08.232 --> 00:05:16.211
Just don't give up and remember that the kids are our main focus and they need.

00:05:16.211 --> 00:05:32.875
What we do daily, no matter how much paperwork or things that we have to do, it's for a great purpose and it's for to inspire and equip the next generation so that they can take our place, because we're getting old and it's time to go home for us in a little while.

00:05:32.875 --> 00:05:37.007
Thank you so much.

00:05:37.100 --> 00:05:38.165
You're only as old as you feel.

00:05:38.165 --> 00:05:40.708
But yeah, you know, it's true.

00:05:40.708 --> 00:05:50.153
Every job there's a legacy and it's wonderful to see that legacy going forward for educational success throughout the years.

00:05:50.153 --> 00:05:54.064
So that's wonderful to hear Andre Hodges once again.

00:05:54.064 --> 00:06:01.795
She is with Montgomery Public Schools and she is the Federal programs educational specialist.

00:06:01.795 --> 00:06:03.925
Thank you so much for joining us today, Andreea.

00:06:03.964 --> 00:06:04.706
Have a good one.
