00:00:06.471 --> 00:00:09.195
Welcome to Spotlight for Success by American Book Company.

00:00:09.195 --> 00:00:10.858
I am Devin Pintosa, your host.

00:00:10.858 --> 00:00:20.109
We are here at the Alabama Educational Technology Conference here in sunny Mobile Alabama and really enjoying this conference.

00:00:20.109 --> 00:00:26.006
I have my special guest here, Shabiria Wolf, so happy that you could join us today.

00:00:26.006 --> 00:00:35.851
Thank you, Shabiria joins us from Glen Oaks Intermediate School and that's in Fairfield City Schools, Is that right?

00:00:35.972 --> 00:00:36.593
That's correct.

00:00:36.933 --> 00:00:38.841
All right, Wonderful Well.

00:00:38.841 --> 00:00:40.848
Thank you, Shabiria, for joining us today.

00:00:40.848 --> 00:00:46.049
Can you tell us a bit about what brings you to the Alabama ETC today?

00:00:46.731 --> 00:00:54.283
Well, I'm up here, of course, to collect knowledge for my school, to take back to my school, but I'm also presenting on tomorrow.

00:00:54.765 --> 00:00:57.274
Oh, wow, and tell me about this presentation you're doing.

00:00:57.456 --> 00:01:06.715
Okay, the presentation that I have designed for this particular conference is digital treasures tech tools for teachers in the classroom in the areas of math and science.

00:01:06.715 --> 00:01:21.250
We are in a society that is definitely heavy in the STEM field, so we always want to keep our teachers abreast of all of the latest websites, the newest podcasts, all of the different tools that they can use within the classroom.

00:01:21.549 --> 00:01:22.632
That is wonderful.

00:01:22.632 --> 00:01:26.171
I see you keep up with the latest trends in technology.

00:01:26.941 --> 00:01:27.623
I try my best.

00:01:27.724 --> 00:01:31.433
Yeah, you mentioned to me earlier, you're a lifelong learner.

00:01:31.433 --> 00:01:35.703
I am, and I understand you have some celebrations coming up, is that right?

00:01:36.025 --> 00:01:39.712
Absolutely, absolutely Again.

00:01:39.712 --> 00:01:41.260
I am a lifelong learner.

00:01:41.260 --> 00:02:00.225
So because I'm a lifelong lifelong learner, I have recently graduated, not once, but twice, from two different colleges, getting two different degrees simultaneously, while teaching as a full-time teacher and being a full-time pageant queen.

00:02:00.225 --> 00:02:04.772
Okay so a lot on my plate you sure have.

00:02:05.231 --> 00:02:08.975
How did you get two degrees at the same time working full time?

00:02:09.600 --> 00:02:18.644
well, it was a lot of late nights and early mornings I tell you um, I again, once I set my mind to something, I find a way.

00:02:18.644 --> 00:02:32.786
Um, that's one of the things I I feel like you should sacrifice for what you love, and I'm a lover of knowledge, so I put that sacrifice towards everything that I do, and I try to put my passion in everything I do, especially for my students.

00:02:33.287 --> 00:02:34.531
Oh, that is so wonderful.

00:02:34.531 --> 00:02:35.735
What are your degrees in?

00:02:36.417 --> 00:02:38.562
Thank you for watching Spotlight for Success.

00:02:38.562 --> 00:02:43.653

We look forward to hearing from you.

00:03:27.891 --> 00:03:34.084
Well, the first degree that I just received was a master's in instructional leadership Wonderful.

00:03:34.084 --> 00:03:41.304
And then I also have a degree from the North Carolina College of Theology as well.

00:03:41.629 --> 00:03:42.836
Wow, that is great.

00:03:42.836 --> 00:03:44.443
That's two masters.

00:03:44.443 --> 00:03:45.126
Is that right?

00:03:45.126 --> 00:03:45.829
Two degrees?

00:03:45.868 --> 00:03:45.969
yeah.

00:03:46.030 --> 00:03:49.299
That is amazing Shabiria, amazing Shabiria.

00:03:49.299 --> 00:03:55.582
And can you tell me a bit about your journey, from what helped you get to the point of you know here?

00:03:55.582 --> 00:04:03.527
You were in a different field, I understand, in college, and then you made a decision you're going to go and be going education.

00:04:03.830 --> 00:04:09.158
Yes, so I did start off in the College of Engineering.

00:04:09.158 --> 00:04:12.364
I went to school for electrical engineering for four years.

00:04:12.764 --> 00:04:12.965
Wow.

00:04:13.229 --> 00:04:21.644
And so on that journey it was really interesting being the only female in a lot of my courses and things of that nature.

00:04:21.644 --> 00:04:27.211
And so all of a sudden I just got this unction that I should be teaching Now.

00:04:27.211 --> 00:04:31.201
Mind you, I did not want to be a classroom teacher, I know.

00:04:31.201 --> 00:04:35.721
I saw a lot of the things that my teachers had to deal with.

00:04:35.721 --> 00:04:37.898
I was like, no, I don't want to do that.

00:04:37.898 --> 00:04:44.764
But as I sat back and reflected I realized that that's what I had been doing all the time.

00:04:44.764 --> 00:04:52.399
I had been teaching all the time, teaching in my church, teaching in my school, teaching, you know, the kids in my neighborhood, just teaching all the time.

00:04:52.399 --> 00:05:03.130
And I also realized that I had a rapport with students where I was able to get younger kids to do things faster than the adults could do them, even though I was a child at the time.

00:05:03.252 --> 00:05:05.997
So again that teaching has always been with me.

00:05:06.737 --> 00:05:07.579
That's incredible.

00:05:07.579 --> 00:05:11.714
And now you did this presentation here today.

00:05:11.714 --> 00:05:19.382
So you're giving back to the Alabama ETC, yes, and what are you hoping to get out of Alabama ETC in these sessions?

00:05:19.810 --> 00:05:29.562
Again taking back the knowledge, the wealth of knowledge and things that I can use and also pass on, not just to my students but to my fellow co-workers as well.

00:05:29.562 --> 00:05:44.982
Because, again, as long as we're on the forefront of the learning and the technologies and the things that are going on around us, that's definitely more beneficial for the students because they will have a broader perspective of all the different career options that they have out there today.

00:05:45.490 --> 00:05:46.911
Oh, that is so awesome.

00:05:46.911 --> 00:05:49.497
Well, once again, thank you so much.

00:05:49.497 --> 00:05:58.440
Shabiria Wolf here with us from Glen Oaks Intermediate School and that's in Fairfield City Schools.

00:05:58.440 --> 00:05:59.795
Thank you for joining us today.

00:05:59.949 --> 00:06:01.276
You are so more than welcome.
