00:00:08.752 --> 00:00:10.414
I'm Devin Pintosa, your host.

00:00:10.414 --> 00:00:17.393
We are here at the Alabama Federal Programs Conference with the Director of Federal Programs for ALSDE.

00:00:17.393 --> 00:00:19.024
This is Molly Killingsworth.

00:00:19.024 --> 00:00:20.728
Thank you, Molly, for joining us today.

00:00:20.949 --> 00:00:21.911
Absolutely, you're welcome.

00:00:22.120 --> 00:00:22.521
All right.

00:00:22.521 --> 00:00:29.147
So Dr Molly Killingsworth, tell usa little bit about what's going on here at the conference that you can share.

00:00:29.448 --> 00:00:29.748
Sure.

00:00:29.748 --> 00:00:49.713
So at the conference we're updating, giving updates, federal updates, state updates, different things that are going on in Washington with legislation, what to expect, and we're also having an opportunity for the school districts to share with each other bring, challenges, questions that they have, sharing ideas and information.

00:00:49.713 --> 00:00:57.912
We want everyone to leave with a better understanding of the federal grants and being better able to implement, you know, for the kids in.

00:00:57.972 --> 00:00:58.332
Alabama.

00:00:58.332 --> 00:00:59.615
Oh, that's wonderful.

00:00:59.615 --> 00:01:07.832
So a lot of buzz about that here at this conference, trying to make sure everybody's informed on the best way to get those forms filled out and make sure everything's straight.

00:01:07.832 --> 00:01:08.954
Yes, absolutely.

00:01:08.954 --> 00:01:10.423
Okay, that's great.

00:01:10.423 --> 00:01:20.599
Dr Killingsworth, can you tell us a bit about your journey to get into this role and special experiences you had during that process?

00:01:20.941 --> 00:01:21.200
Sure.

00:01:21.200 --> 00:01:27.093
So I actually started teaching math and I went from math to guidance counseling.

00:01:27.093 --> 00:01:37.393
I was a guidance counselor at the elementary, middle and high school level actually, and then I got into administration at the school and district level before coming to the State Department.

00:01:37.393 --> 00:01:56.569
The majority of my experience in the public schools was in Elmore County and we actually used some of the products American Book Company products with our students that were struggling passing the graduation exam, that math and the social studies they just had so much difficulty with them.

00:01:56.569 --> 00:02:11.370
But we had remediation sessions after school and then we actually had a built into the master schedule sessions where they had could use primarily those books as resources to help them remediate for the test.

00:02:12.099 --> 00:02:14.046
Thank you for watching Spotlight for Success.

That's wonderful.

00:03:03.270 --> 00:03:04.864
And did they see score improvement?

00:03:04.883 --> 00:03:05.064
with that.

00:03:05.064 --> 00:03:06.808
Actually, yeah, yeah, actually, yeah, they did.

00:03:07.009 --> 00:03:07.731
That's awesome.

00:03:07.731 --> 00:03:13.168
That is so great to hear and I'm so happy that you were able to have.

00:03:13.168 --> 00:03:16.859
What a wonderful career you've had as well reaching so many students.

00:03:16.859 --> 00:03:23.826
Is there anything you'd like to share with the federal programs community or anything regarding next year you could share with us?

00:03:29.780 --> 00:03:30.061
Well, just that.

00:03:30.061 --> 00:03:35.153
You know, in the state of Alabama we are always looking to see what we can do to improve, to make sure our programs are effective, and what we can do to work more efficiently.

00:03:35.153 --> 00:03:40.420
So our job is to support the school district, so they can support the schools and, ultimately, the students.

00:03:40.420 --> 00:03:42.990
So we want to do what we can do to make it easier for them.

00:03:43.520 --> 00:03:44.401
Okay, wonderful.

00:03:44.401 --> 00:03:50.734
Well, thank you once again, Dr Killingsworth, Director of Federal Programs with the ALSDE.

00:03:50.734 --> 00:03:51.843
Thank you for joining us today.

00:03:51.944 --> 00:03:52.647
Thank you, bye-bye.
