Ever wonder how a career in libraries begins? We’re on the floor at the South Carolina Library Association conference in Columbia talking with USC student Bobbi Elmore about the moment a middle school volunteer shift became a calling and how that spark now guides her path through the Master of Library Science. It’s a short, lively conversation that puts heart and practicality side by side: what the MLS really covers, why conferences matter, and how to turn curiosity into a plan you can act on.

We are here in Columbia, South Carolina.

00:00:16.000 --> 00:00:24.800
And we are having a great experience here getting used to what is going on here at SCLA, South Carolina Librarian Association.

00:00:24.960 --> 00:00:28.559
And I'm here with our special guest, uh Bobby Elmore.

00:00:28.719 --> 00:00:29.920
Bobby joins us.

00:00:30.079 --> 00:00:33.359
She is a University of South Carolina student.

00:00:33.439 --> 00:00:34.640
Thank you for joining us today.

00:00:34.880 --> 00:00:36.000
Thank you for having me.

00:00:36.479 --> 00:00:41.119
Well, Bobby, tell me a bit about what brings you here to SCLA.

00:00:41.439 --> 00:00:51.119
Well, I wanted to be exposed to the many facets of what the MLS degree has to offer.

00:00:52.000 --> 00:00:56.960
And I just wanted to go and deep dive into all of that.

00:00:57.600 --> 00:00:58.640
That's wonderful.

00:00:58.799 --> 00:01:02.719
So that the MLS, that is the Master of Library Science, is that right?

00:01:02.960 --> 00:01:03.200
Yes.

00:01:03.840 --> 00:01:04.159
Okay.

00:01:04.560 --> 00:01:05.439
Wonderful.

00:01:05.599 --> 00:01:12.079
And uh what made you decide that you wanted to pursue a uh a career uh as a librarian?

00:01:12.400 --> 00:01:35.599
Well, my journey through wanting to go into this profession actually started in middle school where I volunteered in my spare time and it really started that hope uh towards being a librarian professionally.

00:01:36.239 --> 00:01:38.159
Oh wow, that's wonderful.

00:01:38.480 --> 00:01:44.879
And uh is there anything you'd like to share with the South Carolina Librarian Association community today?

00:01:47.599 --> 00:01:49.120
You're putting me in the hot spot.

00:01:50.480 --> 00:01:58.799
Well, maybe just something uh uh you know, we're just starting the conference here, and I didn't know if you uh had any thoughts you wanted to share.

00:01:59.120 --> 00:02:08.319
Well, I'm looking forward to learning all about everything and meeting people here.

00:02:09.120 --> 00:02:10.319
That's great.

00:02:10.639 --> 00:02:20.319
Well, thank you so much, Bobby Elmore uh here and uh as a USC student, uh getting pursuing her masters as a librarian.

00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:21.599
Thank you for joining us today.

00:02:21.840 --> 00:02:23.120
Thank you for having me.
